Dimapur, May 11 (MExN): Security forces have busted an arms-manufacturing unit and have seized a huge cache of illegal arms in the heart of Nagaland State’s capital Kohima on May 10. The Assam Rifles’ command informed today that the arms – including 9mm pistols and .22 rifles – were in store to be used by some underground organizations.
The Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) informed that on May 10, the 16th Assam Rifles carried out a search operation following confirmed inputs of a weapon manufacturing unit and storage of illegal weapons in a house near Razhu point in Kohima. During the search operation, the security forces seized a large cache of arms and warlike stores. The arms included 9mm pistols, double-barrel guns, single-barrel Guns, .22 rifles, air guns as well as some partially-made pistols, bullet magazines and assorted ammunitions.
The IGAR stated in a press release today – “The illegal weapons and ammunition were manufactured and stored to be used by some UG factions. The apprehended individuals’ alongwith the recovered weapons, ammunition and the vehicle were handed over to the police station. It is evident with such nefarious activities that, the factions are disturbing the peace in the region and have once again shown the lack of respect for the peace loving people and their sentiments.”
