Assam Rifles personnel assisting villagers in clearing up the landslide along the Lopfukhong - Khongjiri border road on September 19.
Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): The Assam Rifles Battalions posted in various parts of the state conducted several civic action activities over the week.
According to an official press release, on September 19, the Kiphire Battalion assisted villagers in restoring the Lopfukhong - Khongjiri border road which was disrupted due to numerous landslides. The road being the only lifeline for the residents of the border villages of Lopfukhong, Khongjiri and areas further south, was cleared for resumption of traffic, it said.
The prompt response from the Assam Rifles personnel was appreciated by residents who also participated in the restoration effort, the release stated.
Medical assistance
The Jalukie Battalion reached out to local populace by rendering medical assistance and providing essential commodities at Zeme Women Organisation Children’s Home, Peren on September 19.
In a resolve to jointly fight the pandemic, the locals were encouraged to strictly abide by the COVID-19 protocols for their own safety and their loved ones.
A total of 18 children and six staff member attended the event, the release stated.
On the same day, another medical camp was also held at Mhainamtsi, in collaboration with Jalukie Veterinary College staff.
A medical team provided free health check-up, medical consultancy and medicines for individuals and animals of the village.
A total of 243 residents and 26 pet animals were provided medical treatment and residents were also briefed about the preventive measure to be taken against COVID – 19 and monsoon related ailments, the release stated.
Tree plantation campaign
The Ghaspani Battalion meanwhile organized tree plantation drives at Medziphema, Zubza, Piphema, Kukidolong and Nihokhu on September 19 with an aim to reduce the impact of global warming and to maintain ecological balance. The release informed that a total of 1,413 saplings, to include locally available flora and fruit- bearing trees were planted. The Assam Rifles will continue to organize such activities year around as part of the ‘Go Green’ initiative of the country, it added.
Relief for orphanages
According to the press release, Commander 5 Sector Assam Rifles reached out to the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home, Bright Morning Star Children Home and Tabitha Enabling Academy in Kohima, by providing food items and basic essential to safeguard against COVID-19.
Neibanuo Angami, Convenor of Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home, Alenou, Convenor of Bright Morning Star Children Home and Ati, Principal of Tabitha Enabling Academy have expressed their gratitude and lauded the sincere efforts of Assam Rifles, it said.
Interaction with ex-servicemen in Lazu
Meanwhile, the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) carried out interaction with ex-servicemen at Lazu, on September 19. The ex-servicemen were briefed about the importance of support of village authorities at the base level and the cooperation of the local people, the release stated. The meeting was attended by approximately 25 people including Rajas of villages, GBs, policemen and ex-servicemen.
