Peren, January 21 (MExN): Tesen village in Peren district on January 20 marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of a community hall at Old Tesen village and a basketball court at Christian School, Tesen.
The facilities were inaugurated by the Commanding Officer of the 9th Assam Rifles, Col Mohit Kumar Bansal, who attended the programme as the chief guest. Company Commander Major Abhey Sambyal was present as the guest of honour.
The newly inaugurated infrastructure is expected to play an important role in strengthening community engagement and promoting youth development in the area. While the community hall will serve as a common platform for social, cultural and developmental activities, the basketball court is expected to encourage sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles among students and local youth.
The projects were undertaken under Operation Sadbhavana 2025–26, a people-centric initiative of the Assam Rifles aimed at fostering goodwill, development and trust between the security forces and local communities in remote and border areas.
The village community expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles, referring to them as the “Friends of the Hill People”, for their continued efforts in safeguarding the nation as well as uplifting people living in far-flung areas. The initiative was described as a testament to the Assam Rifles’ commitment to inclusive development and nation-building beyond their core security responsibilities.
Cultural dance performances by the Old Tesen Youth Club and folk song presentations were among the highlights of the programme. The National Anthem was sung by the congregation, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Tesen Lui Council chairman Iherang Putlang.
The formal programme was chaired by Namputlak Kauring, headmaster of Christian School, Tesen.
