Dimapur, July 16 : The Association of Nagaland Architects (ANA) held its annual conference at Niathu Resort on Saturday evening, July 16.
Delivering the secretary’s address, Ar. Chenithung Lotha pointed out certain practices that have emerged in recent times which he said needed to be opposed with all strength at the command of the ANA.
He said that the practice of calling of tenders for professional charges, insistence of payment of security deposits by the architect before awarding of the job etc must be stopped.
It was also pointed out that the plans prepared by architects were scrutinized and approved by engineers and non-architects.
In this regard, Chenithung said that the ANA would try to ensure that such plans must be scrutinized and approved by architects only.
The ANA further called upon the non-architects practicing the profession without license not to mar the image of the
profession.
Exhorting the members present, Chenithung said that the ANA must be Nagaland’s most innovative think-thank and that the Association must train its members to conceive and develop innovative projects which could be submitted to the government. Stating that architects have been promoters of development which also envisages certain amount of destruction of the environment, he urged the members to work sensibly.
He said that the time has come for the architects to also intervene in policy matters regarding housing, urban development, heritage, conservation etc.
During the programme, the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency, WJ Décor and Audio Garage delivered presentations.
