As commercial capital ‘reopens,’ DCCI reminds business entities

Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) on Sunday cautioned all shops and business establishments to strictly adhere to the laid down standard operating procedures (SOPs) as the commercial capital reopens on August 17.

The DCCI issued a statement on August 16, expressing gratitude to the district administration and DTF for its decision to reopen all categories of shops and business establishments with effect from August 17. “The reopening of shops with extended shopping hours will go a long way in providing relief to customers as well as help to avoid rush and overcrowding,” it said.

It also reminded all shops and business establishments to strictly adhere to the SOPs and follow practices like ensuring social distancing; wearing masks (both customers and shopkeepers) and provision of hand sanitizers in their respective shops, to name a few.

“Strict action including fine and sealing of shops would be taken against shopkeepers violating the SOP guidelines,” it added.

In the statement, DCCI President Akashe Zhimomi and General Secretary Sanjay Sethi also reminded the state government on the repeated requests for reopening of Hong Kong Market, New Market, Hazi Park Market and Millennium Building Market.

Stating that the losses incurred due to closure of these markets since March 24, is running in terms of crores of rupees, the DCCI maintained that distributors, wholesalers as well as retailers and their families, are facing untold hardships due to the closure, which is now in the fifth month.

It is learnt that the DTF Dimapur has also recommended opening of these markets but so far the state government is yet to take action, it said, while appealing the government to take immediate steps to alleviate the plight of the business community of these four markets.
