Mokokchung, April 5 (MExN): The Asangma village Council and the Asangma Citizens Union today strongly opposed the Assembly constituency re-adjustment where the village is placed under 23 Impur A/C from its present Tuli A/C and termed it as unjustified, unrealistic and arbitrary.
A press release issued by the Chairman, K Nungsang Jamir on behalf of the AVC and ACU stated that on March 27 last, during the meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, ‘the representatives from the Asangma village protested the unjustified placing of Asangma village at 23 Impur A/C from the present Tuli A/C’
Pointing out the main reasons for the opposition to the re-adjustment, the release stated that the village is and Tuli A/C under is just 15 Km away from Tuli Town and is under the administrative control of the Tuli ADC and also is under the Langpangkong Range.
The release stated that placing the village under Impur constituency would mean that the village would come under the Asetkong Range, which would be very inconvenient for the villagers while traveling to the administrative center of the Impur A/C, Kubolong which is very far off from Asangma village.
The release lamented that while the Mulongyimsen and its compound ‘Loyung’ was taken out from Tuli A/C on the ground that these two places belonged to the Changkikong Range, similar claim made by the Asangma village was not considered.
The release further stated that the voters of the present re-adjusted Tuli A/C with the addition of voters from Asangma village would be only 28, 834 which is less than the voters of Jangpetkong A/C which has the highest voters of 29, 408 voters in the district.
Listing out all these points and standing on it, the release stated that an injustice has been done to the village by disregarding all criteria and logic of readjustment.
The release, therefore, declared the proposal submitted by the DC of Mokokchung was done against the wishes of the Asangma people and added that until this ‘unrealistic and arbitrary act is corrected’, the Asangma villagers shall continue to agitate even to the extent of non-participation in the election process.
Further the release strongly refuted the ‘press release issued by the president of NPF and BJP on March 2, 2007 at Mokokchung in regard to re-adjustment of the A/Constituency in Mokokchung District which was published in the local dailies’ and termed it as ‘not correct and misleading.’
