Assam-Nagaland border issue: TNYF files FIR against TV channel

Dimapur, July 2 (MExN): The Tzürangkong Naga Youth Front (TNYF) on July 2 filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Longtho Police Station, Mokokchung against the Editor of a local TV channel in Nagaland for “broadcasting news from one of their misguided and biased news reporter without verifying the actual facts.”

In the FIR, TNYF President and Secretary, alleged that an individual identified as Dip Saikia had carried out news coverage on the recent border incidences at Vikuto village from ground zero and that the news was broadcast by Hornbill TV, Dimapur on June 29.

The news reporter had claimed that the spot where the Assam Police and Forest officials were camped was under Assam’s geographical area, as per the FIR.

“TNYF is baffled as to how a news reporter had the authority to demarcate the Assam-Nagaland boundary whereas it is clearly visible from the video that the hilltop where the Assam Police are camped is a betel nut farm deep inside Nagaland and far from the Border Ali or Border Road constructed by the Assam Government,” the FIR read.

TNYF said that the FIR was filed against the Editor of Hornbill TV for broadcasting news without verifying facts and appealed the news channel to scrutinize all news reports while asking the concerned authority to bring the “culprit to justice.”
