Kohima, August 29 (MExN): Different units of Assam Rifles under the aegis of the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted various activities on August 29, an official release informed.
The press release from PRO HQ IGAR (N) said that the activities included medical camps, felicitation, and celebration of National Sports Day in both Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Medical Camps: The Kiphire Battalion organised a medical camp at Akhegwo village in Phek district on August 29 where a total of 65 villagers availed medical assistance.
During the medical camp, villagers were also sensitized about the relevance of personal hygiene, sanitation, usage of face masks and other precautions to be observed during vaccination of COVID-19, the release said.
Meanwhile, the Shamatore Battalion of also organised a free medical camp at the Waphar village under Tuensang District on Sunday.
The villager had earlier requested Assam Rifles for a Medical Camp due to the large scale spread of endemic diseases like scrub typhus, viral fever etc which was affecting the locals, the PRO release said.
A total of 130 villagers including women, children and elderly were provided consultation and free medicines in this camp, it added.
Felicitation: The Assam Rifles deployed at Nokyan village under Mon District, meanwhile, felicitated M Holem Konyak on August 29 for successfully clearing the entrance test to study Class VI at Sainik School Punglwa. Holem was part of a coaching and mentoring programme by the troops deployed at Nokyan Post.
As an encouragement, the Nokyan Post organised the felicitation ceremony where Holem was presented with a Samsung Tab, School bag and stationary for his academic session, the release informed.
National Sports Day: Meanwhile, as a part of Fit India Movement and National Sports Day celebrations, various sporting events were organized at various places in Changlang and one village in Longding District under Arunachal Pradesh on August 28. The day is celebrated in to commemorate birth anniversary of “Hockey wizard” late Major Dhyan Chand.
The Changlang Battalion organised a badminton tournament at Changlang town with the objective of promoting sports and fitness amongst local youth, the release said.
The Jairampur Battalion also celebrated the day by organizing friendly Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho matches at Jairampur, Rima, Longvi, Nampong, Vijaynagar and New Dogkpi villages. The events were aimed at encouraging and motivating youth to excel in field of sports, the release added.
The Longding Battalion also organised volleyball tournament at Pongchau village. Four teams including women teams of Pongchau and Bonia villages participated in the tournament.
