Kiphire, February 4 (MExN): In observance of World Cancer Day, Assam Rifles organised a cancer awareness campaign for local residents and its personnel in Kiphire, Aboi, Noklak and Mon districts of Nagaland to spread awareness on cancer, its early warning signs and preventive measures, particularly in remote areas with limited healthcare access.

Conducted under the global theme “United by Unique”, the campaign highlighted that while every individual’s experience with cancer is unique, collective efforts are essential to reduce the overall cancer burden. Lectures focused on healthy lifestyle adoption, the importance of routine medical check-ups and early detection to improve survival rates and treatment outcomes.

Myths and misconceptions related to cancer were addressed, encouraging people to seek medical advice at the earliest. As part of the outreach, Assam Rifles personnel carried out door-to-door awareness drives, distributing informational leaflets on common cancers, risk factors, early symptoms and prevention, and interacted with villagers to promote healthy lifestyle practices.

The initiative underscored Assam Rifles’ commitment to community welfare and civil–military cooperation in the region.

Two AR schools secure first place in SHVR 2025–26
Assam Rifles Public School, Phek, and Assam Rifles High School, Naginimora, have been adjudged first in the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Ratings (SHVR) 2025–26 under Category I and Category II, respectively, in the Urban Area category.

The SHVR initiative, undertaken by the Government of Nagaland to promote cleanliness, environmental sustainability and green practices in schools, was evaluated by a state-level committee chaired by the Secretary, School Education and SCERT. The committee assessed 2,553 schools across Nagaland, selecting 20 institutions under various urban and rural categories.

The rating process assessed parameters such as hygiene standards, waste management, green initiatives, campus cleanliness and environmental awareness among students. The felicitation ceremony was held in Kohima on February 3, 2026, where the principals of both schools received the awards.

The recognition reflects the sustained efforts of the school administrations, staff and students in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, environmental responsibility and holistic education.
