Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): The Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) organised International Day of Girl Child at Lazu and St Francis English Medium School, Dadam on October 11.
A total of 150 people from different villages in the AOR including girl students, block education officer, teachers, Lazu Police, PHC Department participated in the programme, a defence release on Tuesday stated.
Held under the theme ‘My Voice, Our Equal Future,’ various lectures and activities were conducted to improve awareness of gender inequalities faced by girls worldwide, it said.
Highlighting inequalities in terms of access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and child marriage, the AR created awareness about inspirational women in fields of Business, Aviation, Armed forces, Civil services, IPS, Journalism, among others.
It also provided information on career opportunities for girls and women in Armed Forces, Police, Para Military Forces, Journalism, Aviation, Hospitality, Nursing etc, the release stated.
The villagers also expressed their gratitude to 6 AR for their concern and efforts they have put towards the upliftment and development of the villagers and the celebration culminated with distribution of chocolates, balloons along with lunch to all the attendees, it said.
Career counselling and medical camp
The Jalukie Battalion of Assam Rifles meanwhile conducted a career counselling drive and medical camp at Mainamatsi on October 10 where the villagers were briefed about the various health and hygiene methods to be implemented during this pandemic situation.
The youths along with troops took part in cleanliness drive around the village area. A total of 47 youths attended the lectures and 140 villagers were benefitted from the medical camp, the press release stated.
The participants acknowledge the efforts of the Assam Rifles and expressed gratitude to entire medical staff.
