Dimapur, March 6 (MExN): Assam Rifles flagged off a National Integration Tour (NIT) for 20 students and three teachers from Bhandari district in Wokha, Nagaland, on March 6.
The tour was flagged off from Dimapur by Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) Maj Gen Harinder Singh Mavi as part of the force’s Operation Sadbhavana initiative aimed at promoting youth empowerment and national integration.
The programme began with a briefing on the tour by the officer-in-charge of the National Integration Tour, followed by a prayer by a pastor. The ceremony also featured a musical performance by a young student from Kohima, adding a cultural element to the event.
Students participating in the tour were felicitated during the ceremony as a gesture of encouragement and goodwill. The event was attended by officers and personnel of Assam Rifles, along with parents, teachers and members of the local community who gathered to extend their best wishes to the participants.
Addressing the gathering, Mavi highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting national integration, awareness and youth development, particularly among students from remote regions.
He encouraged the participants to make the most of the opportunity, gain new experiences and share their learnings with their communities upon return.
During the tour, the students will visit Guwahati and Kolkata, where they will explore prominent educational institutions, cultural centres and historical landmarks.
The participants will also have the opportunity to interact with distinguished dignitaries, including the Governors of Assam and West Bengal, as well as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command.
Through initiatives such as the National Integration Tour, Assam Rifles aims to promote youth empowerment, education and national unity while strengthening the bond between remote communities and the national mainstream.
