KOHIMA, MAY 6 (MExN): The Association of Mechanical Engineers (AME) has written to the Commissioner and Secretary, Work & Housing, demanding immediate implementation of the Engineer Service Rules (ESR).
A press note from the AME informed that, as per the ESR, “The criteria for recruitment or promotion of various posts are 60 percent for direct recruitment, 40 percent promotion of Assistant Mechanical Engineers, 90 percent for direct recruitment and 10 percent for Junior Engineers (JE).” “It has come to notice from information that no such Engineer (JE) and 11 Assistant Mechanical Engineer during 2003 to 2013,” stated the AME.
It demanded clarification as to “why recruitment was not done according to ESR.” The AME posed, “why the provision of ESR is being ignored for direct recruitment and why have the unemployed degree holders been deprived of the chance to compete?” It further sought information regarding the number of Mechanical Overseer (MO) posts “advertised during the period of 2003” and the procedures for recruitment of MOs.
Calling for immediate implementation of the ESR, the AME further demanded that the post vacated due to the voluntary retirement of Er I Toshi Sangtam be advertised for recruitment through “open competition.” The AME cautioned that failure to address these demands would compel the association to “address the grievances legally or resort to our own course of action.”
