Medziphema, July 1 (MExN): The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema organised online training on ‘organic farming techniques and organic certification’ for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI on June 29 and 30. The training was aimed at imparting technical knowledge on the topic to the participants.
Resource persons for the training were Sunita Rai, Assistant General Manager, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, (APEDA), Guwahati and Rohitashwa Gakhar, Director Operations, International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA), New Delhi.
Participatory lecture on organic certification & exports was briefly discussed on the concept where defining organic is not just about production but the system on how it works. Also, lecture on organic production & guarantee system encourage the participants in imparting the scientific and indigenous technical knowledge of organic farming & certification method such as NPOP & third party.
Both the resource person highlighted the importance of sustainable organic farming with special reference to Northeast Region & Nagaland in particular, stated a press release issued by Director, SAMETI Medziphema.
A total of 22 participants from different districts attended the training. The valedictory program was chaired by Yezaho Swu, DPD SAMETI. Swu encouraged the participants to motivate the farmers on sustainable organic farming. Feedback forms were submitted by the participants and e-certificates were distributed to the participants.
