Mokokchung, April 1 (MExN): A one day farmer-scientist interaction programme on ‘sustainable agriculture & allied farming approaches’ was conducted by ATMA Mokokchung at Longsa village under Ongpangkong north block on April 1.
A press release stated here that the resource persons were Dr Lanunochetla, Dy District Agriculture Officer, Mokokchung; Maongsangla, Sub-divisional Agriculture Officer, Mokokchung; Dr Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Yisemyong; Renbomo Ngullie, ACTO (Horti), KVK, Yisemyong; Samuel Sangtam, ACTO (Agronomy) KVK Yisemyong; Dr Rongsensusang, ACTO (Vety& A.H), KVK; Dr Sanen, VS, AH & Vety Services, Mokokchung; Recha Imchen, Horticulture Inspector, Mokokchung and P Sakotsungba Longchar, ATM, ATMA, Mokokchung.
The interaction was based on three sectors - agriculture, horticulture and veterinary. Under horticulture and agriculture sector various issues on pest and disease management were discussed, wherein the farmers were enlightened on the basic and vital principles like procuring of disease free seeds, land preparation etc to avoid and prevent incidences of pest and diseases.
Under veterinary sector the fundamentals of rearing pigs were discussed, which includes selection, care and management of breeding boar, breeding sow, piglets and bio-security. Knowledge on sequential cropping to double the farmers income was also disseminated.
Technologies on integrated farming system were also disseminated and stressed on the importance of planning process before setting up a farm in order to sustain and reap maximum benefits.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Nuksunginla Jamir, ATM, ATMA and it was attended by 24 farmers.
