ATMA Tsg sensitize Alisopur and Longhipeth farmers

Farmers of Alisopur and Longhipeth village during the day long programme conducted  by ATMA Tuensang on June 23.
 
Dimapur, June 27 (MExN): The ATMA Tuensang conducted a day long programme on June 23 with around 100 farmers of Alisopur and Longhipeth village by organizing ‘anti-rabies vaccination camp cum training programmes.’ The vaccination programme was carried out by Dr. Kenalo Kath, VAS and BTT Convenor, Chare block and Dr Vikshe Sumi, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Tuensang.
Inauguration of Integrated Farm School was done by the Dr. Moa walling, DHO and Project Director ATMA Tuensang as the chief guest. In his speech Dr. Moa walling said that farm school is an approach to empower individuals, families and communities which builds their sense of self confidence and self-reliance and also acts as a platform for the farmers to utilize their own knowledge and skills, while integrating new expertise and enhancing farmer’s position as mangers of their own land and resource. He further sensitized them on the functions and operational mechanism of ATMA.
The guest of honour, Dr. Khutovi Wotsa, Deputy Director, Horticulture Department encouraged that the farmers need to be the farmer’s friend of other farmers to invest and exploit collectively and make best use of the opportunities and resources available.
Further, the farmers were trained on ‘piggery production and management of some important diseases’ by Dr. Vikshe Sumi, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Tuensang; ‘Management of Pets of locally grown important horticulture crops such as Banana, citrus and mango’ by Sentimenla Jamir, BTM, Chare Block; ‘Vermicomposting, its applicability and scope’ by Albert Shitiri, SMS, Chare block. Having observed the cultivation of a high value medicinal plant ‘Alpinia Galanga’ in the village, he trained the farmers on its scientific propagation and highlighted its emerging business.
The village council chairman of both Alisopur and Longkhipeth encouraged and challenged the farmers to show the result by adopting and disseminating such techniques among the farmers for the greater interest of all farmers. The programme was chaired by Dr. Kenalo Kath while vote of thanks was delivered by Wondangbeni Kikon, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Tuensang.
