Awang Konyak & Imlimerenla Jamir win Nagaland Virtual Football Skill Competition

Kohima, August 16 (MExN):  Awang Konyak and Imlimerenla Jamir were declared as the winners of Nagaland Virtual Football Skill Competition for boys & girls category respectively organized by Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland.

The results of the competition were announced on Sunday. This event was initiated in celebration of 75th year of India's Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) programme.

The competition aims to provide platform for talented footballers and freestylers to show their skills virtually.

In girls' category, 17 year old Imlimerenla Jamir from Mokokchung district took the title while second position was bagged by 22 year old B.Watijungla from Mokokchung district followed by third Neke Konyak (17 years) from Mon district.

For boys' category, 17 year old Awang Konyak from Mon district was the winner, followed by 18 year old Thungcheva Lotha from Dimapur district as runner's up and 19 year old Aching Anns from Mon district as the second runner's up. The prize money for both categories stands Rs 10,000 for champion, runner's up- Rs 7000, and Rs 5000 for third position.

The youngest participant was a 6 year old Renchan Odyuo from Bhandari Town, Wokha district, who will receive a cash award of Rs 1000. Thungcheva Lotha was adjusted as Viewer Choice Award and will get Rs 1000
Akumla Chuba, Director of Youth Resources and Sports in her virtual message said a total of 21 participants took part in the competition.

She said the department came up with the idea of launching Virtual Football Skill Competition with a message to all the young aspiring footballers not to give up hope, but to keep on practicing till the COVID 19 situation improves and till such time the department resume its activities.

The director also informed that the department is also planning to start similar activity for other disciplines as well in the coming days.
