Kohima, March 19 (MExN): Awareness cum distribution of community assets programme was organized by Kohima Forest Division on March 19 at Range Office Kohima. The programme was mainly organized to strengthened and built up the capacity of the local institutions such as the JFMCs, village council, women group etc. Issues related to protection and conservation of forest, wildlife and forest fire management were discuss and deliberated during the function.
DFO Kohima, Rongsenlemla Imchen, IFS in her address thanked the community for cooperating with the department and highlighted on the importance of the role of local community in protecting and conserving the forests and environment. Dr. Kenei Miachieo IFS, CF (STC) who was a special invitee in the programme exhorted the gathering to be emissaries of change with regard to forest conservation. He highlighted the relation between the land use pattern and its effect on the environment and also how to improvise upon it for a positive sustainable result.
Mesenchu and Paul from JFMC New Tesophenyu and Kandiyu respectively spoke on behalf of the local community wherein both of them appreciated the department for its initiatives in raising environmental awareness in the region and also pledge to protect the environment. Invocation prayer said by Neitsolie Sanchu, Dy Ranger and vote of thanks was proposed by Jweni Semp, Ranger. Barbed wire and plastics chairs were distributed to the JFMC's and SHG's under FDA Scheme.
It was stated in a press release that the programme was attended by Kohima Forest officials, local functionaries, JFMC's, Women Group and SHG's of 18 villages covering Kohima, Tseminyu and Chiephobozou range under Kohima Division.
