An officials addressing the awareness programme organized by Nagaland Zoological Park Rangapahar on conservation of Blyth‘s Tragopan at the Blyth‘s Tragopan Breeding Center Kohima on March 8.

Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): An awareness programme was organized by Nagaland Zoological Park Rangapahar on conservation of Blyth‘s Tragopan at the Blyth‘s Tragopan Breeding Center Kohima on March 8.
This was in line with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav week, under which the Blyth’s Tragopan was chosen as the species of the week in collaboration with the Central Zoo Authority of India, according to a press release issued by Director, Nagaland Zoological Park Rangapahar, Dimapur.
During the programme, Dr C Zupeni Tsanglao IFS, Director, Nagaland Zoological Park, gave an introductory speech highlighting that although Blyth’s Tragopan is the State bird of Nagaland, there is a lack of awareness among the people to conserve it.
She urged the participants especially the students, to play an active role in spreading awareness for conservation their species. She lauded the Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Center for their Community based approach on conservation of Blyth’s Tragopan and encouraged them to take part in disseminating the awareness, the press release stated.
Further, Vedpal Singh, IFS, Chief Wildlife Warden, Nagaland pointed at the paradigm shift on the conservation of wildlife in Nagaland particularly for Blyth’s Tragopan, as people are putting efforts to work in collaboration with the Forest Department. He encouraged the students to be brand ambassadors for conservation of wildlife.
A felicitation programme was also held for the winners of the poem competition on Blyth’s Tragopan, along with issuing of printed folders on conservation of Blyth’s Tragopan to each of the participants.
