Chümoukedima, April 22 (MExN): To mark the celebration of Earth Day, the Eco Club of Patkai Christian College, Chümoukedima organised an awareness programme on e-waste at the Bundrock Chapel on April 22.
The programme was led by Eco Club with Sowete-u K Letro, founder of E-Circle Nagaland, as the resource person, PCC Mass Comm stated in a press release.
E-Circle Nagaland is an organization that aims to promote sustainable e-waste management practices in the state. By collecting e-waste and sending it to authorized recyclers, E-Circle Nagaland helps to reduce the environmental impact of e-waste and promotes a circular economy.
During the interactive session, Sowete-u highlighted key points of E-waste statistics stating that India is the third-largest producer of e-waste in the world.
e-waste such as electronic devices contain various components that are often dumped in landfills, posing health risks, she added.
Sowete-u explained the difference between linear and circular economies, emphasizing the importance of adopting sustainable practices.
A circular economic system aims to reduce waste and promote sustainability, she informed. In a circular economy, products are designed to be recycled, reused, or biodegradable, reducing the amount of waste generated, she added.
The resource person underscored that by adopting circular economy practices, environmental impact of e-waste can be reduced and sustainable development can be promoted.
