Dimapur, May 21 (MExN): A special awareness and sensitisation programme for brick kiln units under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) was organised in Dimapur on Thursday to promote cleaner and environmentally friendly practices in the sector.
The programme was organised by the District Industries Centre in association with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur.
The initiative aimed to create awareness among brick kiln owners and workers on air pollution and support the objectives of the National Clean Air Programme.
Addressing the programme, Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ‘B’ at the NPCB, highlighted the impact of ambient air quality on human health, the environment and climate.
He stressed the importance of maintaining clean air standards and said protecting air quality is a shared responsibility.
Kithan added that proper pollution control measures could help create a healthier and safer environment for future generations.
Speaking on environmental compliance in the brick kiln industry, Aghali A Swu, Senior Environmental Engineer at NPCB, highlighted the sector’s contribution to construction activities and employment generation.
She also spoke on major environmental concerns associated with brick kilns and stressed the need for adopting cleaner technologies and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
The programme was chaired by N Abeno Lotha, while the welcome address was delivered by Chikuotho Nyusuo. The vote of thanks was proposed by Lucy Ngouri.
An interactive session was also conducted during the programme, where participants raised queries and shared suggestions that were addressed by the resource persons.
