Awareness programme on minority welfare schemes held in Wokha

Wokha, January 27 (MExN): The Directorate of Minority Affairs, Nagaland, organised an awareness and sensitisation programme on minority welfare schemes and constitutional provisions at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha, on January 27.

Delivering the keynote address, Joint Director, Minority Affairs, Andrew C Imti emphasised the importance of empowering minority communities through improved access to government schemes and highlighted their role in promoting inclusive growth and democratic values.

Officials of the department made a series of presentations on various schemes. Programme Assistant Khriezotuolie spoke on micro-credit schemes under the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), explaining the provision of concessional loans to economically weaker sections of minority communities to promote self-employment and income generation.

LDA Lily Tungoe presented details of the Minority Scholarship Scheme, which supports students from minority communities in pursuing education at different levels. Project Officer Shalo Khing gave an overview of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at creating infrastructure and community assets in minority-concentrated areas to improve socio-economic development.

Assistant Project Officer Thejavizo Rio spoke on PM VIKAS (Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samriddhi), a programme designed to provide skill training, financial support and market linkages to artisans and craftsmen from minority communities.

The programme was chaired by Project Officer Shalo Khing, while ADC Wokha Renbomo Ezung delivered the welcome address. Heads of government departments in Wokha, along with chairpersons of village councils from across the district, attended the meeting and discussed effective implementation of the schemes at the grassroots level.

According to a DIPR report, the programme marked the first awareness and sensitisation initiative of its kind conducted by the department in Wokha district, with similar programmes planned in other districts in the coming months to ensure wider outreach and participation.
