Dignitaries along with the participants of the one-day awareness programme-cum-Seed and Input Distribution on Promotion of Pulses in NEH Region (Nagaland) held in Zunheboto on March 7.
Zunheboto, March 8 (MExN): A one-day awareness programme-cum-seed and input distribution on promotion of pulses in the NEH region (Nagaland) was organised at Kitami village in Zunheboto district on March 7 under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Kharif Pulses (AICRP), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, under the NEH programme.
The programme began with a welcome address by Kavi Sumi, Scientist (Plant Pathology), who outlined the objectives of the initiative and highlighted its importance in enhancing pulse productivity and strengthening pulse production across Nagaland.
He encouraged farmers to cultivate more pulses to meet nutritional requirements, ensure economic sustainability and improve soil health.
Altogether 44 farmers from Kitami, Ghokimi, Tsaphimi, Punheboqa and Asukiqa villages participated in the programme.
During the programme, farmers interacted with scientists from AICRP on Kharif Pulses, SAS, Medziphema, including Dr Akumla Longchar (Plant Breeding), Kavi Sumi (Plant Pathology) and Dr Rokozeno (Entomology).
As part of the initiative, pigeon pea and green gram seeds were distributed to the farmers along with agricultural implements such as field caps, scrappers and knapsack sprayers to support farm operations and enhance productivity.
The farmers expressed appreciation for the practical and skill-oriented nature of the programme and requested that more such initiatives be organised in the future to strengthen pulse extension services in Nagaland.
