Migrant workers are seen during the awareness camp on Tuberculosis conducted by staff of Prodigal’s Home in Dimapur.
Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): Tuberculosis is a common phenomenon among the daily wage earners, particularly among the migrant workers living in clustered and unhygienic environments in many pockets of Dimapur.
With this factor in mind, a team of Prodigals’ Home staff working with the Migrant population in Dimapur conducted an awareness camp and distributed sputum containers for collection of sputum among the migrant daily wage earners of Urra Villa Colony, Dimapur under the Aegis of RNTCP, Dimapur. Atsung Aier, the coordinator of the team, two other field staff and the Nurse presented on ways and means of contracting TB, signs and symptoms of TB, treatment procedures and relevance of sticking to the treatment program. Ramanand Sah, Representative of the Bihar community in that locality introduced the team to the gathering and highlighted the importance of the program. This team of Prodigals’ Home is part of an “Urban Slum Scheme” aimed at improving TB control in slums of Dimapur which is supported/funded by Revised National Tubercolosis Control Programme (RNTCP), Dimapur. Creating awareness in slums is one of the many other activities under the programme.
