Resolve 15-month impasse amicably

The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) and the NSCN/GPRN (K) Khango on Tuesday signed a ‘Letter of Reconciliation’, resolving an imbroglio stemming from a specific threatening act by the Khango group in July 2024.

The reconciliation follows the Khango group’s agreement to fulfil a key condition, designated as point no. 3, which involves publicising the identity in local newspapers and disciplining an individual known as “Max Naga” in local newspapers.

The agreement was finalised during a meeting held at Japfü Hotel, Kohima on December 16. Making the announcement during a press conference, the AYO President Kesosul Christopher Ltu said that a five-member delegation from the NSCN/GRPN (K) Khango and 11 members of the AYO had threadbare discussion and deliberation on this matter. Subsequently, the two bodies have considered certain points and come up with ‘Letter of Reconciliation,’ Ltu stated.

The letter signed by AYO President and the group's Kilo Kilonser, Viniho Kiho, stated that the December 16, 2025 meeting in Kohima was held “in the larger interest of the Naga community and unity of our Naga people.”

It noted that after deliberating on a previous August 20, 2024 agreement between AYO and NSCN/GPRN (K) Khango, and considering a subsequent letter from GPRN office of the Commander, Western Command, N/A, NSCN/GPRN dated December 15, 2025, both parties resolved to settle the matter “amicably in the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation.”

The reconciliation specifically addresses point no. 3 of the August 20, 2024 agreement, which required the NSCN/GPRN (K) to “make it known to the public the identity of the person alias 'Max Naga'“ and initiate disciplinary action against him within 15 days.

Following the fulfilment of this condition, the AYO shall “withdraw its non-cooperation and recalling back of Angami workers from the NSCN/GPRN (K) Khango.”

Other points that were resolved during the August 20, 2024 were ‘withdrawal of the capital punishment order against the contractor; retraction of directives for Angami contractors to cease work outside Angami areas and AYO withdrawal of non-cooperation and recall of Angami workers from Khango ranks.’

Earlier, Ltu said the two parties were in non-cooperation given the turn of events involving the contractor from the Angami community.

However, on August 20, 2024, AYO officials and NSCN/GPRN (K) Khango led by the then Kilo Kilonser, Pusheto Yeptho and the Supervisor of the Ceasefire Supervisory board, “have come together and have given a joint statement declaring 4 points.”

He said as per the August 20, 2024 Agreement, point no. 1, 2 and 4 were agreed upon in letter and spirit. However, point no. 3 could not be uphold by the NSCN/GPRN (K) Khango, therefore, the AYO being compelled after 15 days had to issue non-cooperation to the group.

Kiho from the Khango group assured that point no. 3 will be published in local dailies in few days. As initiated by the AYO, the Khango group had come to reconcile the matter, he expressed, meanwhile conveying regrets that their government could not resolve the matter on time due to ‘communication gap and technical difficulties.’

“It took us 15 months to come to a meeting point. We are happy that all rank and files have accepted to resolve issues amicably and we are ready to work hand in hand to pursue for our national issue,” he assured.
