AYO wants action by June 30 on Kohima firing incident

DIMAPUR, JUNE 14 (MExN): The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and the youths of Kohima today issued a statement with regard to the incident which occurred on 7th June 2012 at Mohonkhola, Kohima in which an innocent civilian was shot without any reason. The AYO in a press note issued by its President Khrielievi Chüsi expressed concern that such incidences have been occurring too often and the anti-social elements are making Kohima town unsafe for the public.

The Youths requested the District Administration and Law enforcing authority to leave no stone unturned and immediately bring the culprit to book latest by 30th June 2012. The AYO hoped that the Home Minister, the Chief Secretary, the Commissioner, Nagaland, Home Commissioner, Special Secretary Home, the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima and Superintendent of Police, Kohima, still remembered the assurance to safeguard and protect the lives of the public from anti-social elements which was made to the Youth Organisations on 2nd April, 2012.

The Youth Organisations of Kohima stated that they were ready to support any positive steps of the Government and therefore appealed to the Government of Nagaland to stand firm and follow up on the assurance given to the youth. “Failing which, the Youth shall resort to its own course of action and the Government shall be held responsible for any eventuality”.

In connection with this incident, the A.Y.O. and the Kohima Colony Youth convened an emergency meeting on the 13th of June and vehemently condemned the shooting of the innocent victim. The youths also acknowledged the various underground factions for making their stand clear on their non-involvement in this incident. “The Youth therefore believe that they (Underground factions) have spoken the truth and will not twist any of their statement later on”, the AYO stated.

Stating that no underground faction has claimed responsibility over the 7th June incident and has through the press media given their statement on the incident, nevertheless, all the different groups are appealed to carry out thorough investigations of their own to ascertain the culprit(s) so that befitting punishment is given to rouge elements, if any, in their fold.

The Youths also appealed to all the Kohima denizens to condemn such crime by anti-social element and join hands to make the Capital a safe place for every citizen.
