Azo underscores importance of education

Kutsapo Village (Phek), December 22 (MExN): Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Kuzholuzo Nienu, has underscored the importance of education and said it is the backbone of any progressive society.
The minister, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the 43rd general session of the Kutsapo Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday, urged the gathering to take education seriously if they want to advance at par with other society.
Azo said that whereas a youth can indulge and excel in other activities including sports for a short span only, education would remain a lifetime affair and therefore, the need to focus more on education during one’s student’s life.
He also urged the village education committees (VECs) to assist in checking proxy teachers, non-qualified teachers and to help the government in other related areas so that the careers of students are not jeopardized.
Stating that government jobs have become saturated, the minister exhorted the students to focu on their various course and studies and to start their own enterprise, businesses or enter the corporate world.
Earlier, the minister also inaugurated the newly upgraded Government High School Kutsapo in presence of joint director, School Education, Zaveyi Nyekha, village council members, VECs, elders and student community.
Joint director, School Education, in his address enlightened the villagers and students on the Right to Education (RTE) act and the policies and programmes of the state education department. He said RTE which came to force since April 2010, has come as a boon to needy villagers who cannot afford their children to send to school. He also said that the state government has done a lot in the education sector and said that in recent past, Phek district alone had witnessed at least 13 school upgradations.
KSU president, Chipakhuyi Rakho, in his presidential address said that the union had chosen “Self reliance and perseverance” as the theme of the 43rd general session, keeping in mind the “exemplary and noble qualities of our forefathers and bygone leaders to ignite our minds as we strive to compete with the rest of the world.”
Kutsapo village council chairman, Zacineyi Vadeo and Chakhesang Students’ Union president, Esther Rakho, also spoke on the occasion.
