Banana Fibre Extraction training held

Dimapur, July 18 (MExN): One day training cum demonstration programme on ‘Banana Fibre Extraction’ was conducted organized by Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema in collaboration with KVK (ICAR), Wokha on July 15 with Shying Shyu, EAC, Wokha as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest encouraged the participating farmers to take up the venture on a large scale since banana which is the raw material is available in plenty. He also encouraged the youth to take up banana fibre production on a large scale as it was observed to be viable venture for self employment.
Lanu, Branch Manager, SBI, Wokha highlighted on the farmers loan scheme being implemented by the bank and assured the farmers to provide all possible help in terms of loan for taking up agriculture and allied activities. Short speech was also delivered by N. Khumdemo Ezung, Programme Coordinator (i/c), KVK (ICAR), Wokha where he informed that the programme was first of its kind in Wokha district and requested the farmers to take full advantage of the programme.
The main resource person for the programme was Arvind Singh, Technical Consultant, CIH, Medziphema and Jessica Dohtdong, PA (Home Science), KVK, Wokha. Topic such as Importance and uses of Natural fibre, Selection of raw materials for fibre extraction and tips for quality fibre production was thoroughly discussed by the resource persons where the participants actively interacted. Practical demonstration on banana fibre extraction and tips on maintenance of the machine was conducted by Arvind Singh where the farmers actively participated with full enthusiasm. Approximately around 90 farmers participated in the programme from different banana growing villages of the District including officials from Agri and allied Departments.
