
Dimapur, February 21 (MExN): Bangla Bhasha Prachar Ebong Prashar Samiti (BBPEPS) under the aegis of Bharat Sevashram Sangha today observed the International Mother Language Day (IMLD) along with the rest of the world here in the premise of Pranab Vidhyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. Speaking on the occasion, principal of PVHSS Manoj Bhattacharjee urged the students to protect their mother language as their identity, culture and tradition is determined by their mother tongue and lamented that though there is opportunity in the state of Nagaland to learn Bengali and students opting for Bengali are less. Headmaster, LK Das also encouraged the students to protect their own mother languages.
Gurupada Maharaj of BSS (Kolkata) in his address expressed that it is a saddening situation that people are neglecting their own languages and adopting the foreign ones and it is more sorrowful a situation when parents boast about their children’s inability to communicate in their own languages. It further mentioned in a press release that Bengali is the fifth most spoken language in the world with an estimated population of around 25 crores.
