Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): Bosco College of Teacher Education (BCTE), Dimapur organized a workshop on performing arts as part of its B.Ed College curriculum on March 5 and 6.

The resource person, Fr Jossy Mathew SDB, made efforts to help the teacher trainees to utilize two elements from classical dances in their interactions with the students in the classroom: Facial expressions and ‘mudras’ or hand movements.

He added that modern dance forms are increasingly beginning to use facial expressions and ‘mudras.’ While verbal communication is the primary mode of teaching in the classrooms, effective use of facial expressions and hand movements by the teacher captivate the students’ attention and make learning more interesting and meaningful, the resource person reminded the participants.

A press release from the BCTE informed that Fr Jossy has a specialization in Odissi classical dance equivalent to Master’s degree in classical dance form. Hailing from Cuttack in Odisha he commenced training in classical dance from the age of 10 and completed Nritya Bhaskar in classical dance at the age of 20 from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. Before joining the Salesian Province of Dimapur in 2001, he had already completed B.Sc, the release added.
