Many Prime Ministers in the past considered it just as a "Law and order problem" when they knew very clearly that it was a movement, a political movement because they underestimated the Nagas. It was only after the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao boldly declared that it is a "Political problem and not a law and order problem" and slowly Prime Minister Vajpayee accepted that "Nagas have a unique identity from the rest" and now we are walking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and only the future holds what he will bring whether bloodshed or peace.
Our Father AZ Phizo always wanted to fight politically and knew a way out because of that he is the first for the Nagas to talk about Nagas in the UN and he was the only leader who was smart politically with inborn qualities and because of that the brainchild idea of plebiscite 1951 was him. His mentality was way ahead from the other Naga intellectuals in his time and of course he wanted better than the 16-point agreement that exist today, he wanted diplomacy and negotiations. He wasn't there when 16-point agreement was drafted; his colleagues did the blunder who was trained by him and some Naga intellectuals. It is the Nagas who betrayed him and not our father AZ Phizo as some people say. He went silent after Nagas were split into two NPC on the other hand with the 16-point agreement and his movement on the other hand because he knew what was coming. Many did not know what was about to come but he knew well ahead that Nagas are going to take blood against their own brothers one another. He knew India had fulfilled their strategy of divide and rule policy among Nagas and he knew what was about to come. Naga flag was given to him in his vision, Rainbow in the middle but without a storm rainbow won't be there. He went silent and died a sad, depressed man. Today we must go back and ask forgiveness to where we have started and go on with what he wanted, through the process of diplomacy and politics, "NAGAS AS ONE, NAGAS WITHOUT BORDERS."
Look at the ones, that countries who got freedom by guns, are they flourishing???
But look at the ones who got freedom through diplomacy and politically. Number one will be USA and the second will be Israel. She got independence only on 1948 but where is Israel today? They produce one of the best scientists in the world and the next will be India, where was India when the Britishers left?? And look at India today.
India too was divided into lots of states and never made them to come together as one but India came breaking the locks of divide and rule policy by cracking the formulas and of course Indians are sharp to create formulas, they are the ones who added zero in mathematics and the ones who created formulas to cheat in casinos while playing Poker in America. All the Master players of British politicians were cornered and the Indians could unite emotionally together inspite of the man made boundaries. There was a feeling of oneness among them and there was always a patriotic feeling when they chanted Bharat. Well, how many of us feel patriotic when we hear Nagalim? Or KUKNALIM?
We Nagas are lazy today because we are not patriotic anymore and we got less patriotic politicians in the assembly. Only a patriotic politician will not be corrupt because politics is not a profession for him nor a business or a hobby for him but it becomes a mission for him. He will surely want to develop the land and the people.
When we have patriotic legislators then know that our economy will rise because his profession is not for him but for the people and the land to be self sufficient and matured and he will never betray because his joy lies in the accomplishments of the people and making it go forward because for him it's a mission and not a profession!! We are still not matured for complete Independence but I am glad we are moving forward.
Today the state we created was created without their Father; Nagaland is an orphan because it was created without their Father's blessing. A father can always sacrifice his comfort zone for the love of his children's and the love to the land he belongs. Was he not tempted when he was offered the chair of Vice President and President of India? History will tell.
"A nation’s maturity will always be judged by the patriotism feeling of its citizens, having a sense of oneness and love among them and its economy."
