Bhandari councillors seek equal fund and project distribution

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 13 (MExN): Councillors from three wards under the Bhandari Town Council (BTC) have submitted a joint representation to the Council Chairman demanding equal distribution of funds and developmental projects, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-2.0 Urban Housing), across all wards.

In their letter, Ward-1 Councillor Nzanrhoni I Mozhui, Ward-4 Councillor Chonchibeni O Kikon and Ward-9 Councillor Yanrenthung E Patton said the move was in line with resolutions passed during separate general meetings of their wards, followed by a combined meeting on August 8 at Medical Colony.

The councillors called for a review and restructuring of the ward-wise distribution of PMAY-2.0 to ensure “inclusive and equal distribution towards all the Wards of Bhandari Town Council.” They said allocations should be based on “Needs, Eligibility and Transparency rather than political consideration.”

They further demanded the inclusion of Wards 1, 4 and 9 in the “Untied Grants” second instalment for the 2021–22 financial year “for equal development and justice.”

“Considering the seriousness of the sentiments of the people, including discontentment amongst the residents of the above mentioned three Wards, we earnestly request upon your esteem authority to exercise maximum wisdom in implementing various projects prioritizing PMAY-(2.0) for balanced and inclusive development for all,” the letter stated.

The representation included the “firm resolution” of the combined meeting, which also resolved that if the demands were not met by August 14, the wards would jointly abstain from participating in any official programme of the Bhandari Town Council and government. It also resolved that no media statements would be given by residents of the three wards until the matter was addressed.
