Bihari community in Nagaland celebrates Foundation Day

Kohima, March 22 (MExN): Bihar State Foundation Day was celebrated at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on March 22 in the presence of Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor called upon members of the Bihari community to take pride in their identity and rich heritage, describing it as a reflection of a glorious legacy that has significantly contributed to nation-building.

Highlighting Bihar’s historical and cultural importance, he referred to ancient centres of learning such as Nalanda and Vikramshila, and noted the State’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle as well as its association with spiritual traditions like Buddhism and Jainism.

He said Bihar continues to contribute to the nation’s growth through its hardworking people across diverse fields, and urged the community to preserve their culture, language and values while acting as ambassadors of the State’s legacy.

The Governor also called upon Biharis residing in Nagaland to actively contribute to the State’s development and work in harmony with local communities to build an inclusive and prosperous society.

Earlier, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Thavaseelan K, in his welcome address, said the event reflected the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and highlighted Bihar’s role in shaping India’s cultural and intellectual foundations.

The programme featured cultural performances and literary presentations, including a speech by Advocate Y P Gupta, Vice President of Nagaland Bihari Samaj. Performances included a Bihar mashup folk dance by Sonal Gupta and group, poem recitations by Mahendra Sah and Suman Kumar Modi, a solo dance by Ipshita Yadav, a folk song by Kumar Gaurav, folk dances by Kavya Gupta and group, and a Jat-Jatin dance by Arohi Gupta and Pradipta Chakraborty.

A video message from Bihar Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) was also screened during the programme.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Fiirhesie Nyuwi, Joint Secretary to the Governor.
