Birth centenary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika celebrated in Kohima

Kohima, October 28 (MExN): The Kohima Sahitya Sabha Kohima, celebrated the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the legendary singer, composer, lyricist, and cultural icon of India, with a formal meeting and a vibrant cultural programme on October 27.

Dr. Pallab Changkakoti, Associate Professor of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, and President of Kohima Sahitya Sabha, presided over the formal meeting.

The guest speaker, Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bordoloi, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Nagaland University, spoke on the life, philosophy, and artistic legacy of Dr. Hazarika, emphasizing his role in uniting people through music and culture.

The meeting was anchored by Rajat Sarma, General Secretary of Kohima Sahitya Sabha. Colony Chairman Mugulhu Phesao also attended the event, which witnessed the participation of around 150 people.

The cultural programme featured a rich variety of performances, including songs, dances, and poetry recitations by Sanjana Bardoloi, Ashtha Gogoi, Raju Baishya, Deepika Bora, Rupshikha Gogoi, Anjali Bodo, Fwisali Bodo, Aradhya Bora, Pallabi Dutta, Rupa Saikia, Shruti Sonowal, Binita Saikia, Salina Saikia, Barasha Rabha, Pahi Majumdar, Meena Nath, Nayanmoni Bodo, Jyoshna Musahary, and Archana Sonowal, among others.

The gathering paid a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, whose timeless songs and universal message of humanity continue to inspire generations across India and beyond.
