DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 19 (MExN): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president, Rajnath Singh, has assured to solve the protracted Naga political problem through “mutual dialogue in a unique way.”
Addressing a hurriedly called press-conference at Dimapur Airport on Tuesday evening after his return from election campaigns at Tizit and Aboi assembly constituencies in Mon district, the BJP national president said, “We will resolve the Naga political issue by mutual dialogue and in a unique way, once the BJP-led NDA comes to power at the Centre.” Claiming that it was during the then BJP-led NDA regime that Nagaland witnessed peace and progress, Rajnath said the BJP has special concern for the people of North East region.
He assured that given an opportunity in the 2014 general election, the party would provide special packages for the development of the region, as it had done during the time of Prime Minister AB Vajpayee, by opening a separate ministry to look after the Northeast region.
Criticizing the Congress-led UPA government of corruption and downslide of the country’s economy, the BJP leader said that the national GDP has gone down to 5.2%. Further, Rajnath said that the UPA government has humiliated the entire nation by the recent “Helicopter scandal” which hit headlines.
Earlier, in a statement, Rajnath Singh stated that as coalition partners with the DAN, the BJP would ensure that the people of Nagaland join the national mainstream and gradually reduce their sense of alienation. He stated that the DAN Government wants to ensure development, peace and communal harmony while the Congress is “playing vote bank politics by stoking communalism.” “The people of Nagaland have the ability and power to make the right choice”, he added.
He added that the NDA Government had not only waived off the entire state debt of Rs 365 crores in 2003 but also and sanctioned new loans worth Rs 1053 crore to make a fresh start. He added that the UPA Government had promised to award at least 7000 kms of road projects in India during this fiscal year (2012-13) but it could manage only 1000 kms of project awards.
He stated that the BJP in its Vision document for Nagaland. ‘Nagaland: Vision 2025 provides a comprehensive outline of their agenda for all round development in the State. He also added that the Congress at the centre needs to appreciate the unique strategic positioning of Nagaland in the Northeast. He also asserted that the state could serve as the gateway for trade and commerce with India’s eastern neighbors.
