Blood donation to save sick and dying in hospital

Mon, September 7 (DIPR): With the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner, Mon Angau I Thou, one day Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign was organized by the District Administration in collaboration with Civil Hospital, Mon at DC Office on September 7.
Addressing the gathering at DC Conference hall, Angau I Thou said that the purpose of organizing the voluntary blood donation campaign in the district is to create awareness and sensitized the people about voluntary blood donation and saving the lives of other people who are sick and dying in the hospital. Citing that ‘service to men is service to God’, she urged upon the officers and the staffs of the DC office to voluntarily donate blood for civil hospital, Mon. Being a donor herself, she shared her own experience on blood donation with the gathering and said that she took the initiative of organizing the campaign with her office to have good responds from the people.   
Dr. Wungjong, MO. Blood Bank, Mon Hospital highlighted about the urgent needs of voluntary Blood donation in Mon Civil hospital. He informed that there is a shortage of voluntary donors in the district. More blood would be required once major surgery starts in the district hospital.  He said that a healthy person between 18 – 60 years of age can donate blood and added that blood donation does not harm or weaken the health. A healthy man can donate once in every 3 months while a healthy woman can donate once in every 4 months. The blood transfusion service is offered for free to all patients admitted in Mon district hospital, he informed.
Briefing on practical aspects of blood donation in Mon Hospital, Dominique (MSF, Médecins sans Frontières) Lab. Supervisor, said that since there is no blood storage facility in Mon hospital, donors are added to the confidential voluntary blood donors list in the laboratory where their blood group, phone number and address would be registered and called them when their blood is required for a patient. The blood transfusion service is supported by NACO (National AIDS Prevention and Control Program). She informed that anyone willing to subscribe to the list can visit the laboratory at the district hospital, Mon every morning from Monday to Saturday.  
Amos, a student of Wangkhao College Mon also shared his experience about blood donation and his participation in various training camp in the state. He requested the gathering to remove all fears and doubt about infection of various diseases during blood donation and come up for voluntary donation. 30 (Thirty) voluntary blood donors of DC office Mon were registered at the time of reporting the news.
