Zunheboto, June 10 (MExN): A book titled ‘Climate Change and Sustainable Development: Perspective from North East India’ was released by Prof. Pardeshi Lal, Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University on June 10 at Lumami.
A press release issued by Peter Ki PRO, NU, Zunheboto stated that the brief function was chaired by Prof. Sangyu Yaden, Dean, School of Sciences. He stated that the book is an outcome of the National Seminar on Climate Change and Sustainable Development with Special Reference to North East India organised by NUTA (L). The seminar was jointly funded by Nagaland University and NUTA (L). The book carries the selected papers presented at the seminar. Prof. Sangyu Yaden also stated that the book is dedicated to the commemoration of Silver Jubilee celebration of Nagaland University. The editors of the book are Prof. Lanusashi Longkumer; Prof. Dipak Sinha; Dr. Moamenla Amer; Dr. Athungo Ovung; Dr. Pranay Punj Pankaj; Dr. Pitheli K. Jimo.
After releasing the book, Prof. Pardeshi Lal delivered a brief speech stated that the book will be of use to students, researchers and policymakers. He exhorted everyone involved in the seminar and the book to not be satisfied with the findings but to look into them seriously with a view to take necessary action. He touched on the issue of climate change and sustainable development. He shared the simplest definition of ‘sustainable development’ as making the best use of what nature offers and passing it on the future generations in the same, if not better, state. He placed emphasis on keeping the surrounding green in the spirit of ‘go green’ mission. Touching upon other aspects of sustainable development such as food and water, he invited the gathering to not damage the environment under any circumstances.
The book release programme was also attended by Dr. Abemo, Registrar; Prof. S. K. Chaturvedi, Director, IQAC; Prof. Dipak Sinha, Nodal Officer, IPR Cell; Prof. Lanusashi Longkumer, Dean, Students Welfare; Dr. Likhase Sangtam, General Secretary, NUTA (L); HoDs; and Faculty members.
