The preservation of forest and protection of wildlife is an important agenda of the government.
Here is one good example which needs to be appreciated by one and all. In the year 1986 two stag appeared in Masiku (name of the forest) in the Valley of Dikhu River, and it was the prompt initiation taken by the Noksen Village Council, it has been protected with the co-operation from the neighbouring villages of Litem and Longra.
The Masiku Reserve Forest has many species of birds and animals. Apart from stag, according to eye witness account even peacock has been spotted. The stag has been increased to approximately 60 in numbers and spreading towards Mokokchung District as well.
But even after 20 years of its protection and preservation nothing has been done so far, and with no attentions from the Forest Department and the Government. The villagers seem to lose their interest. Yet, with the encouragement from the CCSU the apex student’s community by constructing a rest house and in addition to that A.Lakhiumong, MLA and Chairman Development Authority of Nagaland have donated Rs 60000 with which the villagers seem to have relieved for the moment.
With the increasing numbers of animals we want in the process for construction of another two rest house at Litem and Longra jurisdiction.
Now, it high time that the department concern and the state government should give due importance to such projects in the interest of villagers in particular and for the benefit of the state in general.
