Kohima, March 4 (MExN): Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Association (FONSESA) observed World Engineering Day under the theme, ‘build back wiser-Engineering the future’ at Hotel Japfü, Kohima on March 4.

Advisor, IT & Communication, Science & Technology, and NRE, Mmhonlumo Kikon, gracing the function as the special guest, said, “for a better Nagaland the engineers of the state are the foundation and the drivers of the development of the state, and for the future of the state development policies, it was important for the policymakers and engineers to collaborate and join hands.”

In the past, he said that many brilliant minds have attempted to ensure that development was equitable in the state but data on the ground showed that it was not so, as we are divided by the politics of tribalism, self-interest, and greed. He, therefore, lamented that unless these issues are addressed, there can be no future for our state, stated a DIPR report.

“Since engineers deal with data analysis to get any plan done, they have pointed out to the policymakers about better policies based on significant data analysis, to be implemented by the policymakers for sustainable development and future in our state,” Mmhonlumo said. He, therefore, said that any development policy made is based on development data and its resources and called upon the Naga society to think and work collectively and know how to use it to secure the future of the next generation. He added that with the road connectivity to all districts and subdivisions, communication has reached all communities, leading to certain criteria changes based on the population of the area, and these targeted interventions being a part of the policy implementation will ensure development equity bringing growth in the state.

While calling upon the engineers, he said, “as they design projects and policies from a database approach, their design should involve the visionary that concerned love for their fellow Naga people, irrespective of their tribe, as we are today living in a world of inter-dependency and globalization which is the greatest force for the development of human being and resources.” He emphasised that since engineers are innovators and knowledge leaders, they should contribute their knowledge through discussions and suggestions with the communities on any issues. He also said a community wants leaders who are educated having strong integrity to make the state grow and as engineers holding a respectable and responsible position in the society, they need to transform this respect into actionable works that will benefit and help the areas in developmental works that will leave a good legacy.

FONSESA President, Er K Hutoi Sema said the World Engineering Day 2022 focuses on ‘Engineering for Sustainable Development and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development’ seek to end poverty and hunger, realize the human rights of all, achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, and ensure the lasting protection of the planet and its natural resources. He added that the main areas where the engineers are needed most are the Sustainable Development Goals, for Water, Energy, Sustainable Infrastructure and Innovation. “The celebration of World Engineering Day is also about promoting engineering as a career and how it is an opportunity to change the world for the better to ensure that everyone has access to clean water, sanitation, reliable energy, and other basic human needs,” he stated.

Technical presentation on ‘activities of department of geology & mining’ was presented by AOE DGM, Joint Director, Er Chirhotho Rasutho and ‘need for renewable energy and schemes & programs under MNRE’ were presented by the Engineers Association of New & Renewable Energy, Project Officer, Er Kekhriezhalie Sorhie.
