Kohima, March 31 (MExN): The Kohima Sumi Students’ Union (KSSU) has conducted its 2nd annual sports day on March 28 at TM Ground under the theme “Building bonds through games.”

Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso (Ato), MLA of 9 Kohima Town, attended the event as the special guest. In his address, Rhutso emphasised the importance of unity within the Sumi community, noting that the very nature of the program reflected togetherness. He stated that sports not only unite players on the field but also bring together spectators, strengthening friendships and social bonds.

He raised concerns about challenges affecting society, particularly tribalism and excessive spending during elections. He urged young people to take responsibility for change by choosing capable and deserving leaders rather than judging individuals based on wealth.

Highlighting the role of youth, he encouraged students to value their education and recognize the sacrifices made by their parents. He reminded them that education alone does not guarantee employment and stressed the importance of developing skills and stepping out of comfort zones to achieve success.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by KSSU president Akito Zhimomi, and a presentation by Kavitoli Jakhalu, Assistant Professor and Vice President of Kohima Sümi Totimi Hoho. The oath-taking ceremony was led by Ghuvito Achumi, Games and Sports Secretary.

The event brought together students and the community, promoting fellowship, discipline, and sportsmanship.
