Thousands of Chakhesangs congregated at the NBCC Convention Hall to mark the first service of the Mission Convention 2012 organised by the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council. Delivering the sermon Rev. P. Bonny Resu, General Secretary, Asia Pacific Baptist Federation, spoke on the topic ‘Reaching the Unreached’.

Resu stated that the convention is not a Chakhesang Mission Convention but God’s own mission. Quoting Martin Luther King Jr who said ‘Whom you must change, you must first love’, Resu pointed out that one cannot do missionary work without loving ones mission field first. Stressing on the need for more missionary work, Resu challenged the gathering to finish what God has begun through sincere missionary work.

Referring to the earliest American missionaries, he said that they had to work with people who were poor and uneducated. Today the situation demands that missionaries go and work with richer and more educated folk hence the only weapon to win souls is through love, the love with which God loves us. Quoting from the Bible Resu further exhorted and encouraged the gathering to go to the ends of the earth, to all nations because people need the Lord.

Earlier Parliamentary Secretary Chotisuh Sazo who is also the Chairman of Chakhesang Mission Society (CMS), gave the welcome address and introduced the gathering to main speakers of the Convention. Briefly speaking on the history of Missionary work in the Chakhesang area he said that the first church was established in 1895 at Chozuba Village.

Since 1980 onwards every Chakhesang household has been donating one fowl each towards the CMS, this pledge was further renewed in 1995 at the CBCC centenary by which every church became a missionary church.

He further said that today some of the Chakhesang Mission fields have completed 25 years of Christianity.

Highlights of the first Mission Convention service included songs presented by Convention Choir, Joyous Messengers, CBCK Choir and a solo by Alhile Mero. The convention souvenir titled ‘Together in God’s Mission’ was also released by the Chairman CMS. The Mission Spotlight was on the Arunachal Pradesh missionaries.

Earlier the praise and worship was led by the Sunday School Children of CBCK and CBCK (MH). Benediction was pronounced by Rev. Vepocu Epao. Mention may be made that the Mission Convention will also feature workshops for Youth & Mission, Mission Vision & Support and Missionaries/ Evangelists today beginning from 1-2:30pm. Resource persons for the same are Rev. Dr. Andrew Kim, Rev. Khrutsoyi Luruo and Rev. Dr. Coppe Mero.
