Call for renewed commitment to Naga cause

ZUNHEBOTO, AUGUST 14 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) on Thursday observed the 79th Naga Independence Day at its General Headquarters, Suruhuto Designated Camp, in Zunheboto district.

Kilo Kilonser Mhonbemo Tsanglao, who was the chief guest, was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour on arrival. He unfurled the Naga National Flag and addressed the gathering, stressing that unity among all Naga people was essential to realise their dreams and aspirations, which he termed the inherent right of the Nagas. He urged national workers to rededicate themselves to the cause of national service.

The Independence Day speech of NSCN/GPRN president Gen (Retd) Niki Sumi was read out at the function. Representatives of various civil society organisations, Hoho officials, GBs and elders attended the programme in large numbers.

A minute’s silence was observed in memory of those who had made the supreme sacrifice in the Naga nationalist struggle. Promotions of rank and file were announced, followed by a military parade by various contingents and a patriotic song presentation by the PAN.

Pastor Ikuto Jimo of the GHQ invoked the programme, Cabinet Secretary Inovi Naga delivered the welcome address, Border Affairs Kilonser Y Asang proposed the vote of thanks, and Religious Affairs Kilonser Viheshe Yeptho pronounced the benediction. The proceedings were moderated by Kilo Affairs Secretary Uketo Chophy and recorded by Joint Secretary and HoD, CFSB, Ameka Achumi.
