Call to protect, safeguard Intanki Reserve Forest

Dimapur, November 22 (MExN): Tenyimi Union, Jalukie celebrated its 33rd Foundation Day along with the community Hall inauguration programme on November 15, 2008 at its compound.

The Programme was graced by Z.M. Sekhose, president Tenyimi People Organization (TPO) as Chief Guest. While delivering his speech, he mentioned that Tenyimi are originated from a particular place called ‘Mekhrora’ in Tenyidi and 'Maikhremai' in Mao. Officially this place is known as 'Makhel' till date. He appealed all the Tenyimi to live peacefully with one another irrespective of tribes and religions because ‘we are one by blood.’ He further encouraged the Tenyimi to protect and safeguard the fertile land and its rich natural resources especially the Intanki reserved forest which God has given to the Tenyimi. In regard to this, he even appealed the Nagaland Government to protect and preserve it from any further destruction and occupation by the land mongers. “If the state Government cannot check and protect illegal occupation and destruction of the reserved forest then it should be handed over to the land owner, the Tenyimi,” Sekhose stated.

The programme was chaired by Hepuni Hraiwo Poumai while invocation was pronounced by Sazoto pastor TUBC, Jalukie Krohol, Angami president gave his presidential address followed by exhortation from Rev. Dr. Father God Fred, Vilasal. Short speeches were also given by Akhang Kamei, President Zeliangrong Baudi and Bangdi Iheilung Former Minister on the occasion. The meeting was well represented by the chairman of surrounding villages besides the Town, council members, public leaders and government officials.

The Tenyimi Union office bearers, Jalukie through a release has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Z.M. Sekhose, President TPO, Keku Zeliang Vice President and P. Sani Mao, Secretary for their participation in the programme. The Chief Guest donated a sum of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) to the union.
