Campuz Buzz: St John College highlights mental illnesses through play

Dionysia, Drama Club of St John College Dimapur observed the World Mental Health Day (October 10) by organising a short ‘Campus Play’ with maximum participation from all the members of the club.

The play commenced with a Prologue which consisted of questions and slogans directed at the society for ignoring and stigmatising mental illnesses, a press release from SJC said.

The Act ran along the lines of people frequently silencing the voices of the victims affected by mental disorders or illnesses and towards the end, a monologue on suicide was included. It was composed and narrated by a fellow student and Dionysian, Chingshau, the general secretary of the SJC Students’ Council, it said.

The purpose of the play was to spread awareness and highlight the existence of these mental illnesses often found in environments such as educational institutes more commonly now in these present times, it added. It was also aimed at leaving each responsible student with a question to ponder upon, such as, “Why isn’t mental health crises addressed more?”
