Capacity building for destitute women organised

DIMAPUR: Training on ‘capacity building for the destitute women, Self Help Group (SHG), the first of its kind, was organized by the Department of Women Development at Rotary Club, Dimapur on August 12. The Jt. Director of Women Development, Nagaland, Khevito T. Shohe chaired the seminar. Ms. Chubala Shilu and Ms. Neilazono Terhuja both members of Women Development Training (WDT) from the Department of Land Resources spoke on the occasion.

The Joint Director in an interaction with The Morung Express mentioned that ‘The State Government finances the scheme for assistance to destitute women’. 

This scheme has so far extended benefit to 750 people and this year it is likely to select 500 more, he said.

Chubala while talking to the woman present said that women in general were dedicated and that their participation was necessary. She further added that the SHG was a voluntary organization and that it was a Democratic unit where saving of income, freedom of decision-making and leadership making abilities can be motivated.   

The first seminar comprised of women who are not getting the benefit. The aim of the Department is to create awareness for ‘Self Help Groups’ in the villages and those already functioning. 

It was also said that the Department would provide financial help in order to recognize the women as normal citizens and that more activities in this regard will be taken up in the future. 

The woman development Department also gets’s help from other Departments such as Waste Land, SIRD and District Administration, officials said.
