Tehok FC wins inaugural match

Kohima | November 15

Tehok FC (Mon) today downed Aphuyemi FC (Zunheboto) 5-1 in the inaugural match of the 6th edition of Capt N Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament 2022, which commenced today at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

Gracing the opening ceremony, Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera, SM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (N) complimented 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles, i.e the battalion of Late Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (P), which sent its representatives led by an officer for this event from Kolkata to Kohima.

He recalled the heroic acts of Capt (Late) N Kenguruse, MVC (P) who made supreme sacrifice at the icy heights of Drass and thanked his parents for gracing the event.

He also expressed gratitude to Subedar (Hony Capt) Imli Akum Ao who was awarded MVC for his exceptional gallantry and courage in the Kargil conflict.

He asserted that the tournament has become a showcase sporting event for Nagaland as is evident by its popularity and thanked Nagaland Football Association for collaborating with Assam Rifles for conduct of this tournament.

He said that sports & discipline go together, for which, “Assam Rifles and all Security Forces, sports is an integral part of our daily routine.”

He was hopeful that this tournament over the next nine days will “bring all of us together as we root for our respective teams and celebrate the true Naga love and passion for football.”

The tournament is organised annually by Assam Rifles on behalf of HQ 3 Corps, to remember the immortal brave heart of Nagaland who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during Op Vijay and to celebrate the sportsman spirit of Nagas. 

18 teams from different districts of the state are participating in this nine day long tournament, which will continue till November 23.

The opening ceremony was peppered with musical interludes performed by Assam Rifles Band, children from Bright Morning Star Children Home and Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Home.
