Jalukie, April 22 (MExN): A total of 13 teams - eight boys’ and three girls’ are participating in the Captain N Kenguruse MVC, Memorial Basketball Trophy, which started at St Xavier’s College, Jalukie on April 22. 

The three-day long tournament is being organised by Assam Rifles and St Xavier’s College.

Teams from Dimapur, Peren Town, schools and colleges from Jalukie Town are competing in the tournament, informed a press release from the organisers. 

The tournament has been organised to honour the memory of late Kenguruse, an alumnus of St Xavier’s School, Jalukie.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Commandant of Jalukie Battalion of Assam Rifles remembered the courage and valour shown by late Kenguruse, the release said.  He also spoke about the importance of sports in everyday life, stating that sports are necessary for achieving a healthy body and mind, it added. 

Principal of St Xavier’s College, Father Francis while recalling late Kenguruse’s valour, called upon the youth to build lives on values as shown him.

Prizes for the winning and runners-up boys’ and girls’ team along with medals and certificates of appreciation were also announced during the inaugural ceremony, the release said.  Staff and students of St Xavier’s College and others attended the inaugural ceremony, it added.
