Career Guidance held at Jubilee Memorial College

Mokokchung, March 27 (MExN): A Career Guidance Programme was organised at Jubilee Memorial College by the Career Counselling Cell on Friday at the JMC Hall for outgoing 6th semester students. The programme aimed to equip students with clarity on career exploration, higher studies and self-employment opportunities in a rapidly changing job market.

Principal of Jubilee Memorial College, Dr Imtiwati Jamir, delivered the welcome address. He stated that such initiatives are important in preparing students to navigate job markets effectively and to pursue higher studies with informed decisions.

The resource persons for the programme were Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurtasia, Principal Scientist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaland University, Lumami, who spoke on the theme “Rural Livelihood Toward Sustainable Self Employment,” and Dr Yutsung Imchen, Director of Shisalen Riju Coaching Institute, Mokokchung, who addressed the second session on “Navigating Opportunities in Career and Competitive Exams.”

Dr Chaurtasia highlighted emerging career opportunities and stressed the importance of developing a progressive mindset in the context of technological advancement, including artificial intelligence.

He cautioned against overdependence on government jobs and underscored the need for large-scale production, organic certification for export potential and utilisation of government schemes to promote entrepreneurship. He also encouraged students to build financial literacy, develop adaptive capacity and prioritise community-oriented sustainable practices.

Dr Yutsung Imchen focused on self-assessment techniques, including understanding one’s aptitude, personality and interests as a foundation for making informed career choices. He advised students “to set clear goals, remain consistent and engage in continuous self-evaluation.” Highlighting the realities of employment challenges, he encouraged early preparation for competitive examinations through regular reading, writing, practising previous years’ question papers and staying updated with current affairs. He also emphasised the importance of networking, discipline and maintaining physical and mental well-being.

The programme featured an interactive question and answer session, where students raised concerns regarding career uncertainty, employment gaps and preparation strategies. The resource persons addressed these queries with practical insights, motivating students to adopt a balanced approach between ambition and adaptability.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr Bendangsunep Ani, Convenor of Jubilee Memorial College, followed by a closing prayer.
