Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): The State-Level “Catch Them Young” U-14 Sepaktakraw and Table Tennis (TT) 2026 concluded in Dimapur on August 29 with the closing ceremony held in Dimapur.
The ceremony began with an opening prayer by Father Renthungo Odyuo, Principal, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School.
Addressing the gathering, ANPSA Dimapur president Asito Peseyie highlighted the improvement in Sepaktakraw among students and teachers compared to last year, attributing it to continued training and collaboration between the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, ANPSA and the Sepaktakraw Association.
Peseyie thanked the department, association, coaches and referees for their support and encouraged the young players to continue practising and aspire to national and higher-level representation.
Special guest and ANPSA Central president Bithungo Kikon appreciated ANPSA officials, the Table Tennis and Sepaktakraw associations, participating schools, coaches, officials, athletes and others involved in conducting the tournament.
Focusing on the importance of skill, Kikon described it as an ability developed through knowledge, training and practice and quoted Proverbs 22:29: “A man skilled in his work will stand before kings.”
He said sports under the National Education Policy (NEP) were no longer merely co-curricular activities but an integral part of learning. He urged students to use opportunities provided by schools and ANPSA to develop skills that would contribute to their future success.
Drawing an analogy with an aeroplane, Kikon said skills could lift a person up, while attitude and character kept them there. He stressed humility, obedience, respect for authority, honesty, truthfulness and integrity, saying character was revealed by what one did when no one was watching.
The State-Level “Catch Them Young” U-14 Sepaktakraw competition aims to identify and nurture young sporting talent while providing school students opportunities to develop skills and gain competitive exposure.
