Pfutsero, February 23 (MExN): In view of the general election scheduled next year, the Core Committee of the Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) during its first sitting held at Pfutsero on February 16 last discussed various matters related to the Clean Election Movement.

CCEM Chairman, Rev Vezopa Rhakho and Secretary, Rev Dr Kowepe Kanuo in a press release stated that the meeting discussed on the need to ensure one person one name in the electoral roll.

The committee deliberated for the need to root out bogus vote from the electoral roll and proposed that voters of the deceased should be immediately deleted or removed. In this regard, the church will be requested to issue death certificate and submit the same to CBCC office for further action and follow up.

It proposed to include area council chairman members in the Core Committee for better coordination and wider participation.

With a view to strengthen the voice of the movement, it is proposed that Clean Election Committee be formed in all denominational churches in Phek district. In this regard, Chakhesang Public Organisation will be appraised with a request to disseminate information for formation in all the different denominational churches, it stated.

It also decided to have a consultative meeting with the Chakhesang frontal organisations (CPO/CYF/CMA/CSU, GB Federation). The meet has been convened on March 7, 2022 at CBCC Mission T. Chikri, Pfütsero at 10:00 am.

It stated that to create CCEM as ‘People Movement,’ bill board, banners and posters would soon be worked out. It also proposed that message of Clean Election be arranged for wide publicity and awareness particularly in the local churches. To propagate Clean Election Movement activities in the villages, Pastoral Exchange programme would be arranged, it suggested.

It also asserted the “Church is not an enforcing agency to control, to penalize or fine any party or individual, however, it is felt that the church is divine institution with duty to pray in choosing the leaders, hence, it is resolved to organize chain of prayer for clean election.”

Earlier, Rev Vezopa Rhakho, Chairman, CCEM chaired the meeting and welcomed the members while Executive Secretary of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC), Rev Khrotso Mero, pronounced prayer.
