Dimapur, February 6 (MExN): Following frequent clashes between the NSCN (Khaplang) and GPRN/NSCN groups in Athibung area under Peren district, members of the ceasefire monitoring group (CFMG) led the new ceasefire chairman Major General (retired) N George, visited Athibung town on Monday.
A meeting with the civil society of Athibung and Peren district administration was held but nothing concrete emerged from the one-hour meeting that commenced from around 11:30 am. No resolutions were adopted to put a stop to clashes between the two groups as well, sources said.
In the meeting held at EAC office in Athibung, official sources said, the CFMG chairman apprised the area’s civil society including Kuki Inpi of Nagaland and Kuki Mothers’ Association, town council members, GBs’ association and youths, that the CFSB was negotiating with both the NSCN groups to resolve the differences arising out of contention of the Athibung designated camp.
On its part, the Kuki Inpi assured cooperation to the law enforcing agencies and administration and reiterated that the public of the area wants peace.
Accompanied by district administration officials including the Deputy Commissioner of Peren, along with CO, 32 AR and public leaders, the CFMG chairman and members visited Athibung designated camp, presently occupied by the NSCN (Khaplang). Major General (retired) George asked NSCN (K) commanders of the designated camp to exercise restraint and that the issue should be resolved amicably.
Official sources also said that earlier before the visit of the CFMG chairman, IGAR (N) Major General BS Das along with DIG of 5 sector P Ravi and CO of 32 AR, visited Athibung around 9:15 am and held discussions with public of the area.
